Merlin Lorenzo Bell was born on May 28, 1992 in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended Central Visual and Performing Arts School where he focused on acting. Merlin did several supporting roles in Aladdin and The Wiz, as well as doing technical work in Dream Girls. Merlin has acted at the Missouri History Museum as a museum interpreter where he was able to get hands on experience with writing and character development alongside other young actors. He also performed in historical dramas to numerous visitors and school groups who came to the museum daily.
From 2011 to 2015, Merlin earned his bachelors degree in Theater while attending Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Merlin performed in theater productions such as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, A Streetcar Named Desire, Theaters of War, The Adventures of a Black Girl in Search of God, and The Malvolio Project. Merlin gladly accepted roles in two musical theater productions: Little Shop of Horrors and Rent. While attending Denison University, Merlin collaborated with peers by starring or making character appearances in student films such as Charades; This Vacuum is Too Loud, Sweet Dreams, The Last Hurrah, Postmortem Jam, Hitchhiker and the Driver, and Midnight Man.
After graduating from Denison University in early 2015, Merlin spent a year networking and exploring different options as a performer in both Atlanta, GA and Ohio. Merlin decided to move back to St. Louis, MO in the pursuit of earning his MA in theatre/acting. This fall, Merlin will be attending Fontbonne University for his MA in theatre. Stay tune!
